Job Summary
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school facilities. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and common areas, repairing and maintaining equipment and systems, addressing facility-related issues promptly, and assisting with setting up for events and activities. Additionally, they may collaborate with other staff members to prioritize maintenance needs, maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, and adhere to safety protocols and regulations. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to uphold a conducive learning environment for students and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain preventive maintenance (PM) on heating and cooling systems required by the MAXIMO system.
- Perform general maintenance on equipment, sewer lines, drainage, painting of buildings and rooms; replace floor tiles; perform minor electrical repairs on appliances; repair drinking fountains, windows, doors/hardware; minor repairs on roof, swamp coolers, exhaust fans.
- Schedule and perform PM on all school equipment, fire alarm systems, utility lines, playgrounds, etc.
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g., broken/clogged pipes/drains, faucets, gutters, sprinkler heads, grease traps, fixtures) to resolve safety concerns.
- Perform general carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and welding tasks.
- Maintain shop area and work sites in a safe, clean, and orderly environment; adhere to safety laws, codes, and regulations.
- Assist other departments for student safety and support program activities (e.g., inclement weather transport, emergency transport, graduation, security, festivals).
- Inspect facilities, systems, and components for necessary repairs.
- Comply with OSHA requirements and report safety deficiencies.
- Handle hazardous chemicals safely according to SOPs (HAZCOM/AHERA).
- Assist in emergency planning and response.
- Utilize MAXIMO to document work tickets and completed tasks.
- Attend department and safety meetings as required.
- May serve as a Volunteer Firefighter and assist security as needed.
- Work evenings, weekends, and respond to call-backs.
- Establish positive working relationships with colleagues, external agencies, and stakeholders through effective communication and collaboration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Effort
Climb ladders, work in hard-to-reach places, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, lift up to 75 lbs, wear protective gear, and work in confined spaces.
Working Conditions
Work inside and outside in various conditions including high temperatures, dusty crawl spaces, noisy and smelly areas, and bad weather. May be exposed to hazards like electric shock, boiler failure, fumes, and chemicals.
Requirements
- Support and comply with school philosophy, mission, and vision.
- Complete annual sexual harassment and safety training.
- Maintain confidentiality per FERPA regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Actively pursuing AA in Construction Technology/Building Maintenance or similar.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of inventory, MAXIMO, and building maintenance.
- Certifications in AHERA/Asbestos, Hazardous Waste Safety, Water Treatment, CPR & First Aid.
- Ability to perform intense labor, lift 75+ lbs safely, and possess a valid driver’s license and background checks.
- Basic knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred.
