Job Summary
The Maintenance Worker performs preventive and corrective maintenance in the plant under management supervision.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists in the installation of new equipment.
- Assists with special fabrication and construction projects.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedules.
- Performs machine repair and installation such as replacing motors, rebuilding gear boxes, running threaded and welded piping, overhaul pumps, and replacing packing shaft seals on cookers and pumps. Uses welding and cutting torches.
- Diagnoses and repairs or replaces equipment parts with minimal supervision.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.
- Uses assigned personal protective equipment and observes all safety rules and regulations.
- Attends safety meetings and may serve on the Safety Committee.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience operating a forklift.
- Experience in welding, electrical, and mechanical work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational school training preferred.
- Two years' experience with similar equipment preferred.
- Basic knowledge of maintenance and equipment operations.
- Welding proficiency in MIG and Stick, including vertical and overhead welding.
- Proficiency in control power electrical systems.
- Mechanical aptitude to diagnose and repair motors and other equipment.
- Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Physical Demands
- Frequently lift up to 100 lbs., and push, pull, move objects.
- Regularly walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
- Reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a processing facility with exposure to wet, slippery floors, and high or cold temperatures.
