Job Summary
The Maintenance Worker 2 position performs preventive and corrective maintenance in the plant under management supervision.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists in the installation of new equipment.
- Assists the Maintenance Supervisor and/or other personnel on special fabrication and construction projects.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedule.
- Trains Level 1 Maintenance personnel.
- Performs machine repair and installation such as replacing motors, rebuilding gear boxes, running threaded and weld piping, overhauling pumps, replacing packing shaft seals on cookers and pumps, welding, and using cutting torch.
- Conducts daily greasing and oiling of plant equipment.
- Diagnoses and replaces equipment parts with little or no direction.
- Ability to diagnose and repair control circuits and VFD installation.
- Maintains clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.
- Responsible for using assigned personal protective equipment and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.
- Attends safety meetings and may serve on Safety Committee.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-2 years of demonstrated work experience including operating a forklift, welding, and piping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training preferred.
- 2 years experience with rendering or similar equipment.
- Basic maintenance and equipment operation knowledge.
- Welding proficiency in MIG and Stick, vertical and overhead.
- Control power electric proficiency.
- Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and repairing motors and equipment.
- Good math skills for basic calculations.
Physical Demands
- Frequently lift up to 100 lbs., and perform tasks involving walking, standing, climbing, and other physical activities.
- May need to work nights, weekends, and be on call.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a rendering facility with exposure to wet, slippery floors, and temperature extremes.
