Job summary

Saint Joseph of Onekama is seeking a part-time Maintenance staff member to care for church buildings, grounds and the cemetery. Responsibilities include cleaning, snow removal, sprinkler system upkeep, and preparing spaces for Mass and community events.

The role covers minor repairs, cleaning of facilities, setup of furniture for events, and recycling duties to maintain a safe, welcoming place for worship and programs.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for maintenance of buildings, grounds, and cemetery.
• Clean and maintain church outside; windows cleaned inside and out weather permitting in church, offices, basement and rectory. Replace candles as needed.
• In winter months, sidewalks and entrances are kept snow free and salted before Mass and events.
• Maintain underground sprinkler system for lawn with Spring start-up and Fall shut-down.
• Roofs: monitor snow loads and inspect for leaks; clear ice dams with caution.
• St Joseph Cemetery: cut grass, trim as needed, restart sprinkler system in Spring.
• Setup/Teardown tables and chairs for events; Faith Formation, Food Pantry, Funeral Luncheons, Meetings, Bazaars, Festivals, etc.
• Rotate security cameras batteries.
• Recycle including all cardboard at local recycling center.
• Obtain bids for construction, maintenance, etc., projects upon request.

• Clean and maintain church hall.
• Clean and maintain furnace rooms and storage rooms.
• In winter months, the sidewalks and front/rear entrances are to be kept snow free and salted, especially before every Mass, Food Pantry distribution, and special events/meetings.
• In summer months, maintain the grounds by keeping grass mowed, trimmed, watered, and shrubs trimmed. Move sprinklers around; do not leave them in one area. Make sure that the water is not hitting the building and sprinkler heads are not left along sidewalks or roadway during masses.
• Maintain underground sprinkler system for lawn including Spring start-up and Fall shut-down of system.
• Roofs: Monitor snow loads and inspect for leaks. Clear ice dams from roof drainage area with extreme caution of rubber membrane.
• St Joseph Cemetery: Cut grass, and trim as needed. Turn sprinkler system on/off while on-site. Drain water lines in the Fall, and remove sprinkler heads. Restart sprinkler system in the Spring.
