Job summary

Diocese of Gaylord is seeking a dedicated janitorial and maintenance worker to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of church facilities, rectory, related buildings, and grounds, including cemetery. Responsibilities span general maintenance, grounds care, equipment upkeep, and event support, with physical tasks and independent work expected.

The role requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform repairs and cleaning, and coordinate with vendors for snow removal and cemetery

Responsibilities

• Maintain general facilities, perform cleaning, minor repairs, and safety checks to prepare for next day’s operations.
• Care for grounds: mow, weed, debris removal, cemetery upkeep and snow/ice management.
• Maintain equipment and keep records for heating/cooling systems, safety data sheets, and storage areas.
• Assist with event setup and post-event cleanup, ensuring access and safety around church grounds.

Job description

Ensure the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of the facilities with responsibilities ranging from general janitorial and maintenance tasksof the church, hall, rectory, other associated buildings and the grounds, including the cemetery.

Responsibilities:

1. General Maintenance and Repair:

Perform general maintenance tasks, repairs and cleaning to prepare facilities for the

following day’s operations. Tasks will include, and are not limited to replacing

candles and lights as needed, inspecting and repairing kneelers and pews, cleaning & stocking restrooms and kitchen areas, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and waxing floors, and

garbage removal.

2. Grounds Care:

Mow grass, weed whip, and pick up debris & leaves on all parish grounds including the

cemetery. Spray weeds in cemetery, parking lots, sidewalks and driveways. Water, weed

and care for flower beds. Keep sidewalks and steps clean of snow and debris and maintain

adequate salt and shovels at all building entrances. Communicate with the contracted

vendor for snow plowing and snow removal. Mark graves, dig holes for cremains and seed

after burials.

3. Equipment Maintenance & Record-Keeping

Conduct preventative maintenance on all heating & cooling systems. Maintain thermostats

daily. Maintain snow & salt logs throughout the winter. Maintain safety sheets for all toxic

chemicals. Maintain all equipment, keep all storage buildings and storage areas neat & organized.

4. Event Support and Set Up

Assist the secretary/parish group/renter in setting up tables, displays, relocating items and

supporting event logistics prior to the event. Clean and reset area after the event.

Check the church grounds prior to Mass to ensure parking lots, sidewalks and steps are free

and clear of snow or debris. Attend burials to cover the grave after services have concluded.
