Job summary

Diocese of Saint Petersburg is seeking a custodial and maintenance worker to support church facilities and parish spaces. The role involves indoor and outdoor tasks, routine repairs, cleaning, and grounds upkeep across the church campus.

Ability to lift 40-50 lbs, work in varying weather, and set up spaces for Masses is essential. Background screening and Safe Environment Training are required before employment.

Qualifications

• Must pass Level II FBI background screening and Safe Environment Training.
• Sets up/breaks down spaces for Masses and events.
• Clean and disinfect as required for safety and health.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, lighting).
• Custodial duties: clean and maintain church, parish hall, rectory, offices, restrooms, and waste disposal.
• Maintain parish grounds: mowing, trimming, watering, landscaping, pressure washing, painting.
• Keep walkways clear and safe; ensure accessibility.
• Set up and break down spaces for Masses, meetings, and parish events.
• Proactively and reactively clean and disinfect all areas as needed.

This role is essential in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment where parishioners can worship, learn, and gather with respect for the teachings and values of the Catholic Church

• Work includes both indoor and outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, lighting, and basic construction). Familiarity with maintenance tools.
• Custodial work to include but not limited to cleaning and maintaining the church, parish hall, rectory, offices, restrooms and waste disposal.
• Be in good physical condition and able to do moderate lifting (40-50 lbs.), climbing ladders required.
• Maintain parish grounds, including mowing, trimming, watering, seasonal landscaping pressure washing and painting.
• Keep walkways clear and safe.
• Set up and break down spaces for Masses, meetings, and parish events.
• Proactively and reactively cleaning and disinfecting
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Candidate must successfully pass a Level II FBI Background Screening and complete Safe Environment Training before employment.
