Job Summary
The Maintenance Worker performs preventive and corrective maintenance in the plant under management supervision.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists in the installation of new equipment.
- Assists with special fabrication and construction projects.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedules.
- Performs machine repair and installation, including replacing motors, rebuilding gear boxes, running threaded and weld piping, overhauling pumps, replacing packing shaft seals on cookers and pumps, welding, and using cutting torch.
- Diagnoses and repairs or replaces equipment parts with little or no direction.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.
- Uses assigned personal protective equipment and observes all safety rules and regulations.
- Attends safety meetings and may serve on the Safety Committee.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience operating a forklift.
- Experience in welding, electrical, and mechanical work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational school training preferred.
- Two years' experience with similar equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of general maintenance and equipment operations.
- Welding proficiency in MIG and Stick, including vertical and overhead welds.
- Proficiency in control power electric.
- Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and repairing motors and other equipment.
- Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Physical Demands
- Frequently push, pull, move, or lift up to 100 lbs.
- Walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch frequently.
- Reach with hands and arms regularly.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a processing facility with potential exposure to wet, slippery floors, and high or cold temperatures.
