An established industry player seeks an Equipment Operator to support various Utility projects in a dynamic role. The purpose of this classification is to operate equipment and perform manual work functions associated with various Utility projects. Operates equipment and performs manual work associated with various functions of the City Utility Department, to include sewer construction and maintenance, road construction and maintenance, right-of-way maintenance, litter control, and other projects as assigned.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools such as a dump truck, tractor, tamping machine, roller, cement mixer, chipper, jackhammer, chainsaw, pole saw, concrete saw, shovel, rake, axe, level/flat rod, mechanic tools, etc.
Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials.
Performs manual work functions associated with construction and maintenance projects, which may include laying pipes, cutting pipes, repairing sewer mains/pipes, cutting/repairing sewer taps, building/repairing manholes, building/repairing catch basins, clearing sewage/storm lines, repairing roadways/driveways, patching holes, rolling/packing pavement, cutting asphalt, setting grades, setting sidewalk forms, pouring concrete, finishing concrete, laying bricks, cleaning streets, cutting tree limbs, loading limbs into chipper, digging holes/trenches, lifting/moving heavy materials, shoveling materials, picking up debris/litter, flagging traffic, etc.
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition such as inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning work areas, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Checks/maintains supply of equipment, tools and supplies for use at work sites.
Prepares and/or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, and other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, work orders, timesheets, invoices, blueprints, maps, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service.
Responds to routine requests for information from employees, officials, the public or other individuals.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
High school diploma or GED required; additionally, one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving equipment operation or construction/maintenance work preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License. Commercial Driver's License preferred but not required for this position.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to such adverse environmental conditions as high pressure gas & water lines, insects, poisonous plants, animals, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, toxic agents, electric currents, disease, raw sewage, blood, or pathogenic substances.
