Job summary

The City of Manhattan, Kansas is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support Public Works. You will collaborate as part of a crew, perform repairs, operate trucks and heavy equipment, and help maintain streets, stormwater, and utilities in a safe, efficient manner.

Responsibilities include responding to inquiries, keeping records, coordinating with contractors, and attending required trainings and meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL with airbrakes and tanker endorsement within 90 days (Class B for Traffic).
• Work Zone certification within 24 months (Traffic).
• Two years of related construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Repair using general knowledge of basic construction techniques.
• Operate trucks, heavy equipment, and power/hand tools.
• Maintain safe worksites with warning devices and protective gear.
• Respond to public/staff inquiries and maintain records.
• Work with contractors on repairs and maintenance.
• Attend meetings and training as required.
• Perform duties across street, stormwater, wastewater, and water distribution as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrakes and tanker endorsement (within 90 days)

Work Zone certification (Traffic division) within 24 months

Two years of relevant construction experience
