Job summary

Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, seeks a Maintenance Technician to ensure safe repair, maintenance, and rebuild of tube mill production equipment in a full-time onsite role in Rochelle, IL.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in heavy manufacturing with strong electrical/mechanical aptitude, PLC familiarity, and experience reading schematics. You will support troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably maintenance.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including PLC familiarity.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math and effective communication abilities.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration.
• Ability to pass job-related testing, physical requirements, and drug screening.
• Regular, full-time onsite attendance.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical maintenance on production equipment following safety procedures (LOTO).
• Ensure guards and safety devices are in place before operation.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate ordering of parts.
• Use maintenance management systems to track performance and repairs.
• Read blueprints, schematics, and manuals to diagnose and repair equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and quality issues; escalate when needed.
• Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and changesovers.
• Observe equipment operation with precision tools to identify issues.
• Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment per OSHA standards.
• Operate forklifts and cranes as required.
• Support continuous improvement and problem-solving efforts.
• Identify safety/quality issues that cannot be resolved independently.
