Job description

Maintenance Technician III - 1st Shift

Maintenance Technician III is an electro‑mechanical position. Responsibilities include supporting manufacturing operations, adjusting and repairing equipment as needed, tracking usage of and ordering replacement parts.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complex electro‑mechanical problems with manufacturing equipment
• Perform detailed setup on equipment, including recipe changes and control adjustments
• Repair and keep mechanical machine components in top operating condition
• Apply advanced understanding of electrical principles such as voltage, current and resistance
• Diagnose and repair electrical control circuits, field devices, sensors, photo eyes, etc.
• Apply advanced understanding of electrical safety, motor control circuits and programmable drives
• Troubleshoot PLC inputs and outputs and repair issues
• Complete projects to add electrical circuits and controls, new equipment, and relocate machines
• Maintain and repair pneumatic systems, including repairs of cylinders and other components
• Perform simple to complex mechanical preventative maintenance tasks following instructions
• Enter all work completed in the computer‑based maintenance program
• Monitor and report spare parts usage, including completing parts order forms
• Adjust equipment based on statistical process control data and collaborate with QA
• Train Level I and II technicians in more complex tasks and skills
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• 3‑7 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge and experience with lock‑out, tag‑out procedures
• Ability to strictly adhere to safety policies and procedures and commit to customer quality
• Availability for regular standby assignments, off‑hours work and emergency overtime as required
• Proficiency in Word and Excel
• Willingness to attend training sessions as needed, including out‑of‑state locations
• Ability to assist in training Level I and II technicians
• Intermediate knowledge of fabrication (e.g., welding, basic machining)
• Strong work ethic and knowledge of intermediate troubleshooting
• Ability to read printed materials, blueprints, schematics, and computer graphics
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Capability to work independently and within a team, establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with employees, vendors, contractors, and suppliers
• Attention to detail in a very fast‑paced environment

Physical Demands

Must possess adequate strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work, use varied hand and power tools, drive a motor vehicle and/or light construction equipment, forklift, platform lift, etc.

• Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds; use proper equipment for heavier weights
• Regularly walk; use fingers and hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; stand and sit for long periods; occasionally climb or balance
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus
• Exposure to variable temperatures, chemicals, rotating shifts, and electric hazards

Work Environment

Manufacturing facility with moving mechanical parts, forklifts, heavy pallets, moderate to loud noise, and airborne dust, powders, and fumes. Personal protective equipment (e.g., clothing, gloves, goggles, safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, cut‑resistant aprons) required.

Qualifications

• 2 years associate degree in a related field or equivalent past work experience
• Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) experience
• Basic PC skills (MS Windows) and ability to work in a team environment and self‑direct activities
• Strong customer focus
• Continued technical training required each year
