Basic Function of Maintenance Technician II

Performs advanced building and grounds maintenance and repair tasks, including complex troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and project-based work in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and landscaping at any New Opportunities, Inc. location. Provides technical leadership and supports oversight of maintenance operations.

Full-Time, Union, Non-Exempt Position

$26.50 per hour, 40 hours per week

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Performs advanced building and grounds maintenance and repair tasks, including complex troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and project-based work in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and landscaping. Provides technical leadership and supports oversight of maintenance operations.

Responsibilities of Maintenance Technician II
  • Lead and perform skilled maintenance and repair of building systems, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general structural repairs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Conduct inspections and recommend corrective actions for deficiencies.
  • Perform routine repairs of facilities (e.g., stairways, flooring, windows, doors, fencing).
  • Construct, paint, and reconfigure offices as needed.
  • Perform routine landscape duties such as weeding, pruning, and debris removal.
  • Utilize the work order system to log, track, and manage tasks.
  • Identify and address unsafe conditions and urgent facility concerns.
  • Plan and conduct snow removal and weather-related maintenance.
  • Set up and prepare meeting and event rooms.
  • Provide technical guidance and assist in training staff.
  • Transport donations and deliveries as needed.
  • Open and close buildings, disarm and set alarm systems.
  • Assist in fire drills.
  • Perform cleaning services as assigned.
  • Coordinate repairs with vendors and contractors.
  • Work early mornings, nights, or weekends in emergencies.
  • Perform other duties to support the agency’s mission.
Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. desired.

Experience: 5 years in building maintenance or skilled trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical). Experience with preventative maintenance, work order systems, and vendor coordination.

Skills: Proven maintenance skills, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, computer literacy, math, and communication skills.

Licenses/Certifications: Connecticut Driver’s License, own transportation, and insurance required.
