Job summary
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs' Montevideo Veterans Home is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to perform repair, maintenance, renovations, and light construction to keep campus facilities safe and functional. The role covers plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, boiler maintenance, and general grounds work, with day shifts and on-call rotation.
Two classifications exist for this role: General Repair Worker and Building Utilities Mechanic-Electrical, offering competitive wages
Qualifications
- Current, valid driver's license.
- Ability to attain licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator within the probationary period.
- Knowledge of trades methods in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanics and carpentry.
- Knowledge of safety measures related to trades work to perform duties safely.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Ability to operate and maintain grounds and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions to complete assignments safely.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair water, plumbing, HVAC, building systems, and mechanical/electrical equipment.
- Assist Building Maintenance Director with day-to-day operations and estimating materials and labor.
- Maintain boiler system operations, logging, and valve replacement or repair as needed.
- Perform campus groundskeeping, including lawn care and snow removal, with valid driving privileges.
