Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep our plant running smoothly in a fast-paced food processing environment. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical equipment, applying expertise in electrical controls, fluid power, welding, and fabrication.

The role requires hands-on problem solving, adherence to GMPs and safety protocols, and the ability to read blueprints and manuals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; related experience could substitute.
• Vocational/Technical diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Ability to function effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to operate forklift, genie lift or scissor lift, or other powered industrial trucks.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and work orders; follow manuals.

Responsibilities

• Efficient Work Order & Emergency Response – review work orders, assess tools, equipment, parts; create work orders in SAP; respond to emergencies.
• Hands-On Maintenance & Equipment Repair – monitor machinery, troubleshoot, replace faulty parts, fabricate when needed; perform preventive maintenance.
• Installation & System Maintenance – install and maintain mechanical equipment, piping, electrical controls per specs and safety rules.
• Technical Skills & Problem-Solving – use basic tools, follow maintenance schedules; minimize downtime.
• Safety First – follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures; uphold GMPs.
