Job summary

Kent Place School is seeking an experienced facilities manager to oversee maintenance across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks. The role includes supervising vendors, coordinating on-call emergency coverage, and preparing spaces for turnover and events.

Candidates should bring 5+ years in maintenance or facilities management, experience with school facilities, and the ability to lift heavy objects. The position involves on-site work in Summit, NJ.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in maintenance or facilities management, preferably in a school setting.
• Experience in general building repairs (plumbing, electrical, etc.).
• On-call rotation participation for 24-hour emergency maintenance.
• Experience with property maintenance, contractors, construction, hotel maintenance.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and operate power tools.

Responsibilities

• Use building automation systems to oversee and modify HVAC systems and perform preventative maintenance.
• Wire fixtures and maintain smoke detectors, fire alarms, receptacles, switches, and wiring.
• Replace plumbing fixtures, clean drains, and install toilets and sinks.
• Manage facility vendors and monitor contracted cleaning services.
• Perform tasks across maintenance trades including plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical.
• Prepare units for turnover and handle event setup/breakdown for school functions.
• Handle all other duties as assigned.

Job description

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:

• Use of building automation systems to oversee and modify HVAC systems, conduct regular inspections, and perform preventative maintenance
• Wiring fixtures, as well as maintenance/testing of smoke detectors, knowledge of fire alarms, receptacles, switches, light fixtures, fuses, and circuit breakers.
• Replacing plumbing fixtures, baseboard units, and valves; cleaning drains; installing/replacing toilets and sinks.
• Manage all facility-related vendors, addressing escalated issues, and monitor the quality of work performed by contracted cleaning services
• Able to perform all aspects of maintenance, such as plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical.
• Preparing units for turnover.
• Perform all event set-ups and break-downs for school functions
• All Other duties as needed or assigned

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in maintenance or facilities management, preferably in a school setting.
• Experience in general building repairs (plumbing, electrical, etc.)
• Participate in on-call rotation to ensure 24-hour emergency maintenance service and response
• Previous job experience: Property Maintenance, Contractors, Construction workers, hotel management maintenance
• Ability to lift, bend, and pull more than 50 pounds.
• Proficiency with power tools, facility-related equipment, and general carpentry/handyman work (e.g., repairing/replacing door hardware, painting).
• In-depth knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Experience using work order systems (preferred)
