Job summary

Aterra Real Estate in West Des Moines, IA is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our on-site team. You will perform a wide range of maintenance tasks across residential and commercial properties, ensuring safety, curb appeal, and tenant satisfaction.

Responsibilities include basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC diagnostics, and routine upkeep. The role requires lifting up to 75 pounds, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel locally on occasion.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in building/property maintenance.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a “do it right the first time” mindset.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Great communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Background check required.
• Lifting, pushing, pulling 75 pounds or more on occasion.
• Bi-lingual is a PLUS!

Duties and Responsibilities:

You’ll handle a wide range of technical maintenance tasks, independently and as part of a team. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Common area maintenance (change light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles and daytime emergency janitorial duties)
• Minor dry wall repair, taping
• Painting and paint touch-ups
• Security of leased spaces, including working with locksmiths and re-keying units, as needed.
• Carpentry skills and ability to review and interpret construction/site plans is helpful.
• Minor plumbing and electrical repairs that do not require a license.
• HVAC diagnostics and basic repairs.
• Yard and landscaping upkeep - trimming, edging, mowing lawn, collecting trash, and occasional snow removal.
• Concreate curb and parking lot maintenance
• Will require lifting, pushing, pulling 75 pounds or more on occasion

Hours:

8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday with occasional on-call and weekend hours.

Travel:

Candidates must be willing and able to travel occasionally within the local region for business purposes. All travel is completed within a single day; no overnight travel is required.
