Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable and safe operation of facility safety systems and production equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, equipment repair and modification, and collaboration with production and leadership teams to minimize downtime and support efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facility safety devices, including fire alarms and security systems, ensuring they remain in proper working condition at all times.

• Maintain and service production equipment by following the preventive maintenance schedule, including oiling, lubricating, and greasing parts as required.

• Conduct mechanical and electrical repairs on printing presses, slitting machinery, pouch machinery, laminators, rotogravure printers, slitters, and other auxiliary equipment.

• Perform machine installations, upgrades, and modifications to support production needs and process improvements.

• Troubleshoot machinery issues using root cause analysis to identify problems and implement effective corrective actions.

• Utilize blueprints, schematics, and repair manuals to diagnose issues and complete repairs accurately and efficiently.

• Maintain the work order system and spare parts inventory system to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks and availability of critical components.

• Communicate clearly and regularly with department heads, production personnel, and other stakeholders to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production disruptions.

• Conduct and support required maintenance-related safety training, such as Arc Flash and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.

• Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair on industrial equipment, including work on 480V electrical systems and PLC controls.

• Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety standards, GMP requirements, and facility procedures.

• Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and safety practices.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of progressive maintenance management or maintenance technician experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong mechanical maintenance skills, including repair and upkeep of industrial machinery such as printing presses, laminators, slitters, and pouch converting equipment.

• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and repair, including experience working with 480V electrical systems.

• Experience with PLC troubleshooting and PLC controls in an industrial setting.

• Ability to perform root cause analysis to diagnose equipment issues and implement effective solutions.

• Hands-on experience with pneumatics and mechanical repair in a production environment.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and repair manuals.

• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex machinery and automated systems.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills to manage work orders and maintenance schedules.

• Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with machine operators and upper management.

• Self-motivated and energetic approach to work, with a focus on reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and repairing rotogravure printers, laminators, slitters, and pouch converting machinery.

• Familiarity with industrial safety training topics such as Arc Flash and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

• Experience in industrial maintenance within a GMP or similarly regulated environment.

• Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems, including auxiliary equipment.

• Ability to support and maintain a spare parts inventory system and work order tracking tools.

Work Environment

This role operates on a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the expectation of overtime, including Saturdays when needed to support production demands. The facility is climate controlled and follows GMP standards, offering a stable and clean working environment. There is an odor of solvents due to the nature of the production processes, but the area is well ventilated to maintain safe and comfortable conditions. The work involves hands-on interaction with industrial machinery, electrical systems, and mechanical components in a manufacturing setting, requiring adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hanover Park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
