Job summary

Aleron is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Phoenix, AZ on a 6-12 month contract with potential for permanent hire. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain train vehicles and wayside subsystems, using electrical and mechanical skills.

You'll work 40 hours per week, with rotating shifts (1st-3rd) and possible overtime, in a safety-focused, training-supported environment with opportunities for certification and growth.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Employment Type: 6-12 Month Contract (Opportunity for Permanent Hire)

Industry: Transportation Manufacturing

Compensation: $25/hr + 10% shift differential

Schedule: Must be flexible to work other shifts during training period, which could last a few months

  • 40 hours per week (Monday-Sunday schedule; 5 days per week with rotating days off)
  • Optional overtime available
  • Shift Options:
    • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
    • 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
    • 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

As a Maintenance Technician, you'll be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, guideway equipment, switches, platform doors, and related subsystems.

What You’ll Do:
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures.
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on train vehicles and wayside subsystems, including guideways, switches, and platform doors.
  • Repair or replace defective parts using schematics, blueprints, manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Respond to system failures and assist with vehicle recovery to restore operations.
  • Support emergency response activities, including assisting passengers when required.
  • Conduct detailed preventive maintenance inspections and adjustments on vehicles and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians while developing independent troubleshooting skills.
  • Maintain and achieve required certifications through ongoing training and development.
  • Follow established maintenance procedures while exercising sound technical judgment in the field.
  • Contribute to system reliability, safety, and overall operational performance.

Job Requirements
What You’ll Bring:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in maintaining and repairing automotive or transportation systems and troubleshooting mechanical or electrical systems either personally, educationally, or professionally, displaying mechanical aptitude.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience utilizing hand tools.
What Sets You Apart:
  • Associate Degree or Technical/Trade School Degree showcasing mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience in the railroad, APM (Automatic People Mover), or transportation industry.
  • Knowledge of basic electronic theory.
  • Aptitude for mechanical operations and the operation of equipment.
  • Knowledge in the use and application of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
Additional Information:
  • Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen.

  • Willingness to work various shifts, as needed.
  • The position needs regular exposure to outside weather in challenging environmental conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. EHS procedures must be followed and proper PPE (provided by the company) must be worn.
  • Be able to work from elevated work areas and use ladders, squat, and climb as needed.
  • Employees may be needed to work in a train yard with live power tails and moving equipment.
