Aerotek seeks a Maintenance Technician II for a permanent role in Gurnee, IL. This position focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and improving injection molding equipment in a highly regulated medical manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance, downtime reduction, and collaboration with Operations, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure equipment reliability and production continuity.
The Maintenance Technician II plays a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing equipment and facility systems in a highly regulated medical manufacturing environment. This experienced technical professional works independently to minimize equipment downtime, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of injection molding and associated manufacturing equipment. The role requires strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and troubleshooting skills, as well as close collaboration with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other technical teams to support equipment reliability and production continuity.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, automation and assembly equipment, and facility systems.
Support the operation and maintenance of injection molding machines and associated manufacturing equipment.
Troubleshoot electrical systems including motors, sensors, heaters, thermocouples, relays, contactors, and other machine controls.
Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems including pumps, valves, cylinders, regulators, fittings, and related components.
Respond quickly and safely to production equipment breakdowns and restore equipment to operation with a strong sense of urgency.
Perform root cause troubleshooting on recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance activities accurately and on time.
Support equipment installations, modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of robotic and automated manufacturing systems.
Partner with Process Engineering, Automation Engineering, Tooling, and Operations to resolve equipment-related production issues.
Identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime, improve preventive maintenance effectiveness, and increase equipment reliability.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, repairs, and parts usage within the site's maintenance system or CMMS.
Follow all applicable safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and site procedures.
Perform work in accordance with requirements associated with an FDA-registered and ISO-based medical manufacturing environment.
Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to less-experienced maintenance technicians as needed.
Assist with spare-parts identification and recommendations for critical manufacturing equipment.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, equipment uptime, and overall operational performance.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Perform additional maintenance and facility-related duties as assigned.
Stand and walk for extended periods while working on and around manufacturing equipment.
Bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in and around equipment in a production setting.
Lift and move up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment in daily tasks.
Work around operating manufacturing equipment and within controlled manufacturing environments.
Provide support outside normal working hours when required by equipment issues, production needs, or business requirements.
Minimum 10 years of hands‑on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose complex equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, and pneumatic diagrams.
Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and machine controls.
Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and industrial safety practices.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize multiple equipment issues.
Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work effectively with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other technical functions.
Advanced troubleshooting capability in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment where equipment uptime is critical.
Ability to identify root causes of equipment issues rather than relying solely on component replacement.
Sound judgment in determining when equipment can safely return to production.
Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and accountability for equipment performance and reliability.
Ability to mentor and support less‑experienced maintenance technicians through hands‑on troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.

Experience maintaining plastic injection molding equipment and associated auxiliary equipment.
Experience with injection molding machine manufacturers such as Engel, Arburg, Milacron, or similar equipment.
Experience troubleshooting robotics, automation, conveyors, dryers, chillers, temperature controllers, material handling systems, and related auxiliary equipment.
PLC troubleshooting experience, particularly with Allen‑Bradley systems.
Experience working in medical device, pharmaceutical, or other FDA‑regulated manufacturing environments.
Experience working within ISO or comparable quality management systems.
Experience using CMMS or work‑order systems for maintenance planning and documentation.
Technical degree, apprenticeship, journeyman certification, or equivalent industrial maintenance training.

This role primarily supports injection molding and associated manufacturing operations within a controlled medical manufacturing environment. You spend significant time on the production floor working around operating equipment, including injection molding machines, auxiliary systems, automation, robotics, conveyors, dryers, chillers, temperature controllers, and material handling systems. The position requires regular use of hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment. Work involves standing and walking for extended periods, as well as bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching in and around machinery. The environment follows FDA and ISO-based quality and safety requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. The role may require support outside normal working hours, depending on equipment issues, production schedules, and business needs, and emphasizes maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times
This is a Permanent position based out of Gurnee, IL.
The pay range for this position is $18.89 - $33.99/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
