Maintenance Technician

Pay Rate - $30/hr.+ (night shift, 7pm - 7am)

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems on thermoforming equipment, ensuring reliable operation and a safe, efficient production environment. This role performs preventive maintenance, supports continuous improvement, and collaborates closely with production and leadership teams to minimize downtime and uphold safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems on thermoforming equipment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures to reduce equipment downtime and extend asset life.

  • Locate and obtain parts required for repairs, projects, and daily maintenance activities, including emergency needs.

  • Monitor machine performance and remain aware of all work performed on machines to identify issues early.

  • Maintain neat, orderly, and safe shop areas and keep work areas around machines clean as jobs are completed.

  • Assume control of equipment when situations arise that present potential for personal injury or rapid deterioration of the machine.

  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for department personnel by following and promoting safety practices.

  • Monitor the work group and provide coaching or support as needed to maintain performance and safety standards.

  • Complete work assigned by the Shift Lead or Leadership Group in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Communicate maintenance activities, equipment status, and issues with Group Leadership and other department members.

  • Obtain parts on a daily basis and respond quickly to emergency part requirements to keep equipment running.

  • Assist in other departments as requested by the Leadership Group to support overall plant operations.

  • Continue education and training to stay current with job requirements, technologies, and best practices.

  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) for each task at all times and ensure PPE is used correctly.

  • Maintain PPE and company tools in good working condition and report any issues promptly.

  • Maintain and enforce all HAACP, GMP, safety rules, and department rules and guidelines.

Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems.

  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, including basic troubleshooting and repair.

  • Hands-on experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including inspection and maintenance.

  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on production equipment and machinery.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment to restore proper operation.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing priorities and tasks effectively.

  • Willingness and ability to accept responsibility for work performed and equipment outcomes.

  • Dependable and motivated work ethic with a solid work history.

  • Ability to participate in an apprenticeship program as part of ongoing development.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Good reading comprehension and math skills to follow instructions and complete documentation.

  • Must provide and use own required hand tools for maintenance tasks.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely.

  • Ability to work around grease, oils, inks, and solvents without adverse reaction.

  • Ability to climb up and down ladders as required for maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop throughout an entire shift.

  • Good manual dexterity of arms and fingers to handle tools and small components.

  • Vision correctable to 20/20 to detect minor defects in equipment or products.

  • Ability to differentiate colors as required for equipment, wiring, or product checks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a thermoforming or similar production environment.

  • Familiarity with HAACP and GMP standards in a manufacturing setting.

  • Strong focus on safety and adherence to established safety rules and guidelines.

  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with leadership and other departments.

  • Commitment to ongoing education and training to keep skills current.

  • Ability to maintain orderly work areas and support a clean, organized, maintenance shop.

Work Environment

This role operates in a climate-controlled production environment within the thermoforming department. You will work directly with thermoforming equipment and related industrial machinery, handling tools, parts, and materials that may involve grease, oils, inks, and solvents. The position requires regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders throughout the shift. Proper PPE is required for all tasks, and safety, HAACP, and GMP guidelines are strictly followed to maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Lawrence, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $61880.00 - $68640.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
