Job summary

HM Alpha Hotels & Resorts’ DoubleTree Durham location is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep hotel facilities, rooms, and public areas in peak condition. You will perform routine maintenance, monitor systems, and coordinate with Front Desk and Chief Engineer to ensure guest comfort and safety.

The role requires at least 1 year of hands-on maintenance experience in a hotel or similar setting and a High School Diploma, with HVAC/electrical/plumbing training considered a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year hands-on maintenance or repair experience in hotels or similar environments.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing is a plus.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain hotel, pool, and surrounding area, performing routine maintenance tasks.
• Notify management of major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
• Respond to guest service requests and keep records of rooms completed.
• Program phone equipment according to hotel needs.
• Monitor equipment and utility readings daily.
• Coordinate with Front Desk and Chief Engineer.
• Maintain MSDS files and stock of parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Maintenance Technician will directly impact the guest experience by ensuring that all physical aspects of the hotel—rooms, amenities, and facilities—are operating at peak performance. From resolving in-room issues to keeping systems like HVAC and lighting running smoothly, your hands‑on approach and attention to detail will help create a safe, comfortable, and well‑maintained environment that enhances the overall guest stay and supports long‑term operational efficiency.

HOW YOU’LL SHAPE THE EXPERIENCE & FUTURE

• Maintain hotel, pool, and surrounding area, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, HVAC functions, and other related maintenance activities, using hand tools.
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
• Respond to guest requests for service according to company policy. Keep records of rooms completed.
• Program phone equipment according to hotel needs.
• Observe equipment and utility meter readings on a daily basis.
• Stay accessible to Front Desk and Chief Engineer.
• Maintain files of Material Safety Data Sheets.
• Ensure par stocking of regularly used parts and supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 1 year of hands‑on maintenance or repair experience in a hotel, commercial building, or similar environment.

Experience with:

• Routine upkeep of hotel facilities, pool areas, and public spaces.
• Monitoring daily equipment operations and utility meter readings.
• Programming and maintaining hotel systems.
• Managing small inventories of tools and maintenance parts.
• Documenting completed repairs and guest service tasks.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training or coursework in general maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related fields is a plus.
