Job summary

Steel Dynamics, Inc. | OmniSource in Toledo, Ohio seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to lead daily maintenance activities and supervise staff, coordinating preventive work and repairs to keep operations safe and efficient.

You will partner with engineering and quality teams, implement cost controls, train employees, and ensure compliance with emission controls and company policies as part of a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years maintenance experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong verbal skills to communicate with internal and external customers.
• Strong writing skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Advanced problem-solving skills and mathematical ability.
• Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Ensures scheduled repairs and maintenance are completed on-time to keep production.
• Coordinates workers fabricating or modifying machines and tools to improve products.
• Directs maintenance on utility systems to ensure heat, power, and air for operations.
• Implements preventative maintenance with engineering and maintenance staff.
• Inspects machines for conformance to standards.
• Implements methods to improve operations and reduce costs.
• Discusses equipment needs with design engineers.
• Requests tools, supplies, and quotes for projects.
• Ensures emission control systems work properly and compliance is maintained.
• Trains workers and indoctrinates them on policies and procedures.
• Collaborates with management to resolve maintenance problems and costs.
• Manages personnel to protect assets and ensure proper usage.
• Monitors training and suggests procedural improvements.
• Involved in Lean initiatives affecting production methods and quality.

The Maintenance Supervisor leads daily maintenance activities to ensure equipment and facility systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role supervises maintenance employees, coordinates preventive maintenance and repairs, supports equipment improvements, and promotes a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that scheduled repairs, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment are completed accurately and on-time to ensure continuation of production operations in line with determined work priorities.
• Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
• Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
• Implements preventative maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
• Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
• Implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
• Discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers.
• Requests tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations, also obtains quotes for projects and equipment.
• Responsible that all emission control systems are working properly, and that all federal, state, and local documentation are being followed.
• Implements training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
• Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
• Confers with management to resolve any personnel issues.
• Assists in controlling costs in conjunction with departmental budgets.
• Responsible to manage all employees assigned to his/her area of responsibility so the assets of the company are operated and cared for without abuse and unnecessary damage. This includes requiring people to check out, clean, inspect and report any problems with the equipment on a routine basis.
• Monitors employee training, while suggesting needed changes to workers, and work procedures as needed.
• Involved in Lean initiative that affect production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products.
• Supervise and Motivate employees to achieve maintenance goals.
• Responsible for plant personnel safety, and compliance with company policy. Conducting disciplinary actions as needed.
