Job summary

Steel Dynamics, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor in Memphis to oversee repair, maintenance and installation of machines and equipment across the plant. You will lead teams, coordinate utilities, and implement preventive maintenance programs to sustain continuous production.

You will collaborate with engineering and quality control to resolve issues, drive cost controls, and enforce safety policies while ensuring compliance with federal and local regulations.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures scheduled repairs, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment are completed accurately and on-time to support production operations.
  • Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  • Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous heat, steam, power, gas, or air for operations.
  • Implements preventative maintenance program with engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for compliance with standards.
  • Implements new methods to improve operations and reduce costs.
  • Discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers.
  • Requests tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations and obtains quotes.
  • Responsible for emission control systems and regulatory documentation.
  • Implements training of workers to improve performance and adhere to policies.
  • Confers with management to resolve maintenance problems and improve operations.
  • Assists in cost control with departmental budgets.
  • Manage all employees in area to protect company assets.
  • Monitors employee training and suggests procedural changes.
  • Involved in Lean initiatives affecting production methods and equipment performance.
  • Supervise and motivate staff to achieve maintenance goals.
  • Responsible for plant personnel safety and policy compliance.

Overview

Coordinates and implements the activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and end equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of mill, industrial plant, or other establishments by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures that scheduled repairs, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools and equipment are completed accurately and on-time to ensure continuation of production operations in line with determined work priorities.
  • Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  • Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
  • Implements preventative maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers.
  • Requests tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations, also obtains quotes for projects and equipment.
  • Responsible that all emission control systems are working properly, and that all federal, state, and local documentation are being followed.
  • Implements training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Confers with management to resolve any personnel issues.
  • Assists in controlling costs in conjunction with departmental budgets.
  • Responsible to manage all employees assigned to his/her area of responsibility so the assets of the company are operated and cared for without abuse and unnecessary damage. This includes requiring people to check out, clean, inspect and report any problems with the equipment on a routine basis.
  • Monitors employee training, while suggesting needed changes to workers, and work procedures as needed.
  • Involved in Lean initiative that affect production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products.
  • Supervise and Motivate employees to achieve maintenance goals.
  • Responsible for plant personnel safety, and compliance with company policy. Conducting disciplinary actions as needed.
