Job summary

Arizona Humane Society is seeking a full-time Maintenance Supervisor to manage the maintenance team across Papago Park Campus with flexibility to travel to Sunnyslope and South Mountain Campuses. The role requires a weekends-inclusive schedule and driving AHS vehicles as needed.

Responsibilities include overseeing preventive maintenance, coordinating repairs, and leading staff while maintaining safety and high service standards for animals, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid Driver's License Required; pass driving, drug and background screening to be insured as an AHS driver.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial building maintenance.
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
• General knowledge of building codes, plumbing, carpentry, heating, cooling and electrical systems, plus vehicle maintenance.
• General working knowledge of automotive maintenance.
• Ability to multi-task and be flexible to pivot as needed.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be able to make sound decisions and be accountable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and work with the maintenance team to keep facilities and grounds safe, functional, and comfortable for animals, visitors, and employees.
• Monitor and coordinate maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, and small construction projects across campuses.
• Respond to facility emergencies and ensure work orders are completed promptly with excellent customer service.
• Lead, train, and support the maintenance team; supervise technicians, review time and labor, assist with interviews, coach performance, and contribute to staff evaluations.
• Maintain inventory of parts and supplies and help develop policies and procedures that improve facility standards and operations.
• Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and Fleet, departmental leaders, vendors, contractors, and suppliers; support building improvements and future facility growth.
• Possess the ability to drive an AHS vehicle; role is safety sensitive; rotational weekends and occasional after-hours emergency availability.

A Day in the Life:

As the Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee and work alongside the maintenance team to keep AHS facilities and grounds safe, functional, and comfortable for animals, visitors, and employees. You'll monitor and coordinate maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, and small construction projects across our campuses, while responding to facility emergencies and ensuring work orders are completed promptly and with excellent customer service.

You'll lead, train, and support the maintenance team, including supervising technicians, reviewing time and labor, assisting with interviews, coaching performance, and providing input for staff evaluations. You'll also maintain appropriate inventory of parts and supplies and help develop policies and procedures that improve facility standards and operations.

This role will partner closely with the Director of Facilities and Fleet, departmental leaders, vendors, contractors, and suppliers to support building improvements and future facility growth. The position requires the ability to drive an AHS vehicle, is designated as safety sensitive, and includes flexible scheduling with rotational weekend and occasional after-hours emergency availability.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 21 years old.

• Acceptable driving record and ability to pass driving, drug and background screening to be insured as an AHS driver.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial building maintenance.
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
• Must possess general knowledge of building codes, regulations and zoning ordinances, plumbing, carpentry, heating, cooling and electrical systems as well as vehicle maintenance and general overall maintenance and repair capabilities.
• General working knowledge of automotive maintenance.
• Candidate must have the ability to multi-task and be flexible to pivot as needed.
• Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be able to make sound decisions and be accountable.
• Regular attendance and punctuality required.
• Excellent time management, adaptability, judgment and decision-making skills.
• Work well both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• The Maintenance Supervisor position is required to drive AHS vehicles and is designated as safety sensitive; misdemeanor and felony charges and/ or convictions, inability to pass driving background, or failure to pass drug or background screening may disqualify candidates from the position.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, have dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must be able to walk and be on feet the majority of the day.

There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; wet floors, animal noises, odors and dander. Time is divided between typical air conditioned and heated office environments and the outdoors.
