Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising the safe and efficient execution of maintenance activities. The Supervisor will direct, lead and motivate a diverse team to maintain assets, environmental protection and operational sustainability while working closely with production employees to ensure issues are addressed in a safe and timely manner.
As part of the management team, the Supervisor is expected to participate in and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This will also include working with other members of the management team to achieve operational strategies that align with company objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, coordinate & amp; delegate the day-to-day maintenance activity in a safe manner.
- Actively promote a safe working environment.
- Ensure the accurate completion of Work Orders to capture work details, labour hours & parts used on a daily basis.
- Work hands on with the team to assist and drive the effective identification of root cause and the implementation of countermeasures.
- Ensure the effective resolution of maintenance issues and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
- Plan work schedules and assignments to ensure that equipment is being serviced within the specified maintenance guidelines.
- Maintain effective communication with the team to foster continuous improvement, safe practices and root cause analysis.
- Supervise & manage outside trades/contractors in accordance with contractor management guidelines.
- Follow up on repairs by auditing staff & contractors to ensure the quality & completion of tasks.
- Meet and exceed downtime targets by optimizing the repair and maintenance of the equipment.
- Lead the shift hand off meeting and ensure the objectives of the meeting are met on a daily basis.
- Represent the Maintenance Department at meetings as required
- Work with the Maintenance Planner & Operations to plan & execute tasks to reduce production interruptions.
- Oversee, maintain and progressively improve the PM program
- Ensure shop cleanliness is maintained (5S) as a high priority with the crews
- Draft and conduct regular performance reviews for the maintenance team
- Proactively identify and address team performance concerns and see to the effective resolution of conflicts.
- Monitor and manage shop tools to ensure that appropriate materials are on site to expedite repairs
- Oversee the effective development of a strong maintenance team through on the job training, course recommendations and consistent coaching/mentoring.
- Participate in equipment reviews & design changes as required.
- Apply policies and practices in a fair and equal manner
- Ensure plant has 24/7 coverage and be available after hours for support when needed.
- Schedule, monitor and approve hours in the timekeeping system, ensuring all hours are approved on time for payroll processing
- Participate in plant safety, health and environmental programs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Industrial Trade Certification with a good command of English both written and oral
- Minimum 10 years in industrial manufacturing environment
- Minimum 3 years in a lead hand or supervisor role
- Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office, and production/productivity software
- Familiarity and conformance with legislated requirements of the OHSA
Preferred
- Post-Secondary Education. Degree/Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is an asset.
- Experience with a CMMS software for issuing/tracking work orders and scheduling PM’s
Technical Skills/Competence
- Working knowledge of Electrical, Mechanical and Fluid Power components, Welding and PLC’s
- Able to facilitate the development, implementation and continuous improvement of our standard operating procedures by educating, training, monitoring, and proactively coaching the maintenance team
- Demonstrated ability to effectively problem solve and independently make sound decisions
- Ability to plan, develop and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs and affect greater utilization of labour and materials.
- Ability to provide clear and consistent direction to team members regarding day to day tasks and overall performance, and exhibits a “can do” attitude.
