Job summary

R.H. Sheppard Co. Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead daily maintenance activities in our production area, driving safety, quality, cost and delivery while building a high-performance team.

You will supervise maintenance technicians, plan preventive maintenance, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues affecting equipment reliability and production efficiency. Strong leadership and Lean mindset required.

Qualifications

  • College Degree or Technical Certificate required.
  • 5 Years of Supervisory experience required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Experience with maintenance in production/manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed both daily and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead maintenance technicians in repair, replacement, installation, and preventative maintenance of building and equipment.
  • Manage and schedule maintenance staff to provide day-to-day line support, in-house repair work, breakdown responses, PTO, overtime, and weekend work.
  • Plan and implement a Preventative Maintenance schedule for all processes.
  • Interface with suppliers to coordinate action on failure issues on parts and services.
  • Report, track, and trend critical monthly maintenance data (MTTR, MTBF, uptime, staff utilization).
  • Ensure maintenance records are properly filed and maintained.
  • Lead and participate in DMS and OEE meetings and act as back-up to Line Leaders.
  • Communicate with Production Supervisors/Managers on alternate shifts for handovers to meet priorities.
  • Maintain KPIs and audit DMS boards accordingly.
  • Assign resources and delegate responsibilities to keep lines running efficiently.
  • Escalate deviations in people, machine, method, or material as needed.
  • Ensure autonomous maintenance activities are performed.
  • Audit shift activities, including planning, quality checks, time/attendance, and OEE updates.

Description

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day distribution of activities in the maintenance of the production area to achieve performance goals in the areas of safety, quality, cost, delivery and KPS in a high performing work team environment. Must be capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and management to address concerns and issues that affect safety, part quality, production efficiency, continuous improvement, etc. The Maintenance Supervisor will also have exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and management skills, demonstrating the ability to be an innovator and change agent.

Essential Duties
  • Lead maintenance technicians in the repair, replacement, installation, and preventative maintenance of the building and equipment.
  • Manages and schedules maintenance staff accordingly to provide day to day line support, in-house repair work, breakdown responses, PTO scheduling, overtime, and weekend work.
  • Plans and implements a Preventative Maintenance schedule for all processes.
  • Interfaces with suppliers to coordinate action on failure issues on parts and services.
  • Reports, tracks, and trends critical monthly maintenance data: major equipment downtime, monthly equipment efficiency measures (MTTR & MTBF), total uptime, staff utilization, etc.
  • Ensures maintenance records are properly files and maintained.
  • Leads and participates in DMS and OEE meetings and serves as back-up to Line Leaders.
  • Communicates relevant information with Production Supervisors and Production Managers on alternate shifts for shift handovers to ensure consistency and meet priorities.
  • Maintains KPIs and updates and audits DMS boards accordingly.
  • Assures lines are running efficiently through assignment of resources and delegation of responsibilities.
  • Addresses and escalates people, machine, method and material deviations as necessary.
  • Ensures performance of autonomous maintenance activities.
  • Audits, ensures and validates shift activities are consistently being performed; includes planning, quality checks, standard work, time and attendance reporting, and OEE system updates, including hour-by-hour bottleneck station tracking.
  • Partners with logistics for planning, including attendance in daily meetings.
  • Partners with Line Leads and Maintenance Supervisors to update training matrices in effort to ensure manpower flexibility.
  • Establishes strong and effective working relationships that are conducive to maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Ensures team members are trained, in accordance with training matrices and onboarding plans, understand their roles and responsibilities, and are given appropriate performance feedback.
  • Promotes and drives the organization’s vision and utilization of KPS (Lean Manufacturing) methodologies.
  • Ensures compliance with all company procedures and policies; addresses issues and lack of compliance through coaching and feedback and escalates, as necessary.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring and department training and onboarding to ensure full competency and production efficiency in areas of responsibility.
  • Understands and adheres to current company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures, including ISO14001. Is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or escape appropriate action regarding safety, health, and environmental concerns.
  • Understands and adheres to current company quality policies and procedures, including IATF16949. Is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or elevate appropriate action regarding product quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including coverage in other plants/shifts as required.

Working Environmental Conditions
  • May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise and hazards such as electrical shock or gases. Some outside assignments could involve exposure to adverse weather conditions. Adequate hearing protection is required for 85 decibels and above.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.
