Shop Supervisor

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedules and administers fleet maintenance, assists in troubleshooting problems with equipment, and communicates availability of vehicles for service with dispatch, maintenance manager and other operations personnel.
  • Repairs and maintains diesel engines and bus equipment.
  • Supervises maintenance operations, plans and distributes work, delegates responsibilities as appropriate and monitors performance. Involved in reviewing personnel actions (hiring, promotions, discipline) while higher management has final approval.
  • Ensures compliance on a day-to-day basis with State, Federal and Company requirements.
  • Works closely with location manager providing status of maintenance and budget requirements, reviews repair orders.
  • May order fuel for all vehicles, order parts, and subcontract repair work.
  • Supervises bus fueling and may arrange services for building and ground keeping.
  • Identifies and recommends actions to improve operating efficiency.
  • Completes special projects as assigned. Required to perform hands‑on work activities.
  • Plans, schedules and distributes work within company guidelines.
  • Trains and motivates maintenance staff.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and airbrake endorsements.
  • Supervisory experience with hourly employees; 2–3 years transit supervisory experience preferred.
  • Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment is preferred.
  • Computer literate – basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • May require lifting of 20 to 50 lbs.
  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
  • Must be able to work in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic’s dolly beneath motor vehicle equipment; subjected to dust, dirt, and grease conditions.
  • Work environment will be a combination of both indoors and outdoors.
  • Physically fit to board transit vehicles and inspect both vehicles and facilities as needed.
