Job summary

Transdev in Missouri seeks a Fleet Maintenance Shop Manager to oversee the fleet maintenance program and advise upper management on issues. You will guide technicians, schedule work, and ensure safe, efficient operation of heavy-duty/paratransit vehicles.

The role requires leadership of supervisors, budget involvement, and strong communication skills to optimize maintenance and safety across locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL Class B with passenger endorsement; onsite training available.
• 7+ years in heavy-duty repair/maintenance with 3+ years supervisory experience.
• A S E certifications required or obtainable within 180 days.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Broad understanding of mechanical systems for heavy-duty/paratransit vehicles.
• Familiarity with safety regulations for maintenance facilities.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Detail oriented with strong organization.
• Travel <5% for meetings.

Responsibilities

• Schedule department staff and supervise mechanics and shop workers.
• Select, train, motivate, and evaluate personnel.
• Coordinate work by outside vendors.
• Develop efficient repair schedules; review cost estimates.
• Set maintenance priorities based on parts availability and operations.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.
• Control and monitor inventory.
• Ensure vehicles are fueled, cleaned and functioning.
• Develop and implement safety policies; maintain a safe work environment.
• Participate in budget development and administration.
• Identify opportunities to improve service delivery methods.
• Maintain clean and organized facilities.

Fleet Maintenance Shop Manager

Role Overview

The Maintenance Manager will report to the General Manager and oversee the fleet maintenance program to ensure safe and effective vehicle upkeep. A successful person in this position will have experience acting as an adviser to upper management on potential issues with extensive experience in managing and producing reports. This person will have experience as a supervisor of supervisors and provider of guidance to technicians to ensure operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Schedules employees for the department; ensures the effective supervision of mechanics and other shop workers; may administer collective bargaining agreement provisions
• Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel
• Coordinates work performed by outside vendors
• Oversees the development of efficient repair schedules; reviews repair cost estimates
• Approves priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations
• Helps to ensure that company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently
• Controls and monitors inventory
• Ensures that all vehicles are fueled, cleaned, and properly working
• Develops and implements safety policies and procedures for the department; maintains a safe working environment
• Participates in the development and administration of the operational budget
• Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods
• Ensures that property, grounds, and facilities are clean and well organized

Qualification

• High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required
• The ability to obtain a CDL Class B with passenger endorsements (Onsite CDL training available)
• 7 years or more of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy-duty automotive and paratransit equipment, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience
• ASE certifications required or able to obtain within 180 days.
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy-duty and paratransit vehicles
• Familiarity with laws/regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and other mechanical and/or electrical diagrams
• Ability to read and write routine reports, forms, and other documentation or correspondence - Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details
• Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings
• Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
• Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.

Physical Requirements:

• The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
• Work environment will be a combination of both indoors and outdoors.
