Job summary

Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA is seeking a Maintenance Technician for Residential Life. The role performs general maintenance, repairs, and additions to university housing buildings and keeps air conditioning systems and cleaning equipment in working order.

The position offers a Monday–Friday schedule (8am–5pm), rotating on-call, with an hourly rate of $19.67. This probationary appointment is based in Residential Life, Ruston.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience or training in building construction, maintenance, or park operations.
  • Completion of a two-year vocational program in building construction or construction technology.
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management/engineering or related courses.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general maintenance, repairs, and additions to Residential Life buildings.
  • Maintains and repairs air conditioning systems and motorized cleaning equipment.
  • Replaces and installs ceiling tiles, doors, blinds, and performs painting repairs.
  • Climbs ladders to replace light bulbs and assist with problem solving as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Job Duties And Other Information
  • Performs general maintenance, repairs, and additions to all Residential Life buildings.
  • Maintains and repairs air conditioning systems and motorized cleaning equipment.
  • Replaces and installs ceiling tiles, window screens, hinges, knobs, showerheads, closet hasps, doors, and window blinds, caulks doors and windows, and performs painting repairs.
  • Climbs ladders to replace light bulbs and clean out light fixtures, helps investigate and solve problems, and completes any assignments given by the supervisor.

Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a Probationary Appointment.

Location: Louisiana Tech University, Residential Life-Ruston, LA

Work Schedule: The typical work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm. There is a rotating on-call schedule and may be required to work some overtime.

Hourly Rate: $19.67
