Job summary

Ohio State Highway Patrol in Ohio is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker 2 to perform electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general facilities maintenance across the agency's facilities. The role requires hands-on trade skills, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work a 6:00 am–3:00 pm schedule in Brook Park.

This is a full-time position with OCSEA union benefits and multiple pay increases in the first years.

Qualifications

  • Formal arithmetic and English communication proficiency.
  • 6 months of maintenance repair experience (electric, plumbing, carpentry, masonry).
  • Valid commercial driver's license if operating state-regulated equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, replaces, installs, and repairs electrical and plumbing equipment.
  • Performs carpentry work for buildings and structures.
  • Performs basic painting and related tasks.
  • Operates state vehicle to transport equipment and materials across locations.
  • Performs minor custodial duties and exterior grounds keeping.
  • Performs minor maintenance on Division vehicles.

What You'll Do as a Maintenance Repair Worker 2
  • Performs maintenance, replacement, installation & repair of electrical and plumbing equipment.
  • Performs carpentry work involving maintenance, alteration &/or repair of buildings, equipment & wood structures.
  • Performs basic painting.
  • Operates state vehicle to transport various equipment, tools, parts, materials & supplies to various locations throughout the state or to transport vehicle to dealership for service or repair.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary;

AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in maintenance repair work(e.g.,basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment);

ANDValid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

May work evening shift; may be exposed to high & low temperatures; may be exposed to weather.

This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). This position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.
