Job summary

The City of Hickory is seeking a skilled maintenance mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and installation of pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment at wastewater and water treatment facilities. This role requires reading, math, and the ability to follow policies while ensuring safe operation.

Employees may work at various facilities, participate in on-call rotations, and must pass a prework screen.

Qualifications

Reading, writing and math at high school level or equivalent.
Knowledge of city/department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment.
Knowledge of electrical circuits and troubleshooting.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
Skill in mechanical maintenance and repair of utility equipment.
Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance procedures and complex repairs on pumps, motors, fans, piping, valves, generators, and related equipment.
Repair mechanical and electrical components at wastewater and water treatment facilities.
Monitor booster station operations and perform mechanical maintenance.
Maintain records of maintenance and repair activities.
Work on-call rotations for emergencies and after-hours work.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
