Job summary

City of Hickory is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to monitor and adjust plant operations, perform chemical handling and laboratory analyses, and maintain logs. The role requires reading manuals, interpreting data, and communicating effectively. After-hours support and on-site work are expected.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and a valid Grade I wastewater certification, with the ability to obtain higher grades. A valid NC Class C driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
• Ability to read and interpret Operations and Maintenance Manuals and construction drawings.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor wastewater treatment plant and identify changes and potential problems; interpret lab data and make adjustments.
• Receive shipments of chemicals and supplies from vendors.
• Perform laboratory analysis of water samples.
• Operate a computer to monitor pump stations, plant operations and alarms.
• Maintain daily records and shift logs; review readings from meters and instruments.
• Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment and grounds maintenance as required.
• Work after-hours during emergencies or bad weather as needed.
