Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Sioux City, IA, is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic to keep our processing plant running safely and efficiently. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspect and repair production equipment, and support production and quality teams to minimize downtime.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with relevant maintenance experience, plus the ability to operate forklifts and lifting equipment. A relocation package is available to eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years in industrial mechanical maintenance or 4 years in similar maintenance environment.
• Vocational/Technical diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Ability to work in a team and coordinate with contractors.
• Ability to operate PIT equipment (forklift/genie/scissor lift).
• Ability to read instructions, write daily reports, and follow equipment manuals.

Responsibilities

• Equipment Maintenance & Repairs: perform PM tasks, maintain lines, inspect and test machinery, diagnose problems with supervision, replace faulty parts, and lubricate components.
• Teamwork & Support: assist production and quality teams, take on additional duties to keep plant running smoothly.
• Safety First: follow GMPs and Lockout/Tagout procedures to ensure a safe environment.
• Facility Care & Maintenance: help repair and maintain plant structures and keep areas clean and organized.
