Job summary

Johnson County Community College is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic - Carpentry to maintain interior and exterior carpentry across campus buildings. The role is full-time hourly with a 6:00 AM-4:30 PM schedule Tuesday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week.

Starting salary ranges from $23.68 to $30.64 per hour, determined by relevant experience. A high school diploma and 3+ years of related work, plus a valid driver's license, are required. Benefits are included for full-time employees.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive or breakdown maintenance for assigned work orders.
  • Perform all construction and renovation duties in accordance with departmental standards and applicable codes.
  • Install suspended ceiling grids per plans and modify ceiling tiles as needed.
  • Build or install door frames, doors, locks, and hardware.
  • Install, maintain, refinish, or repair flooring.
  • Paint with latex, oil, epoxy, stain, or varnish.
  • Estimate, order, or prepare supply requests within budget.
  • Maintain and secure carpentry equipment and supplies.
  • Support a safe environment using PPE.
  • Perform duties for special events and projects.
  • Winter snow removal on campus as needed.
  • Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, custodial, and grounds teams.

  • Install various types of suspended ceiling grids per plans and modify ceiling tiles by cutting as needed.
  • Build or install all door frames, doors, door locks, and all types of door hardware.
  • Install, maintain, refinish, or repair flooring.
  • Perform various painting work with latex, oil, epoxy, stain, or varnish.
  • Estimate, order, or prepare supply purchase requests within a specified budget.
  • Maintain and secure the safekeeping and proper usage of carpentry maintenance equipment and supplies.
  • Support a clean and safe environment by using proper work techniques and utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as needed for special events and projects.
  • Perform winter snow removal on campus by snowplowing, sweeping, shoveling, and applying ice melt, salt, and sand when needed.
  • Partner with the electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, custodial, and grounds crews to help maintain the campus.
