Job summary

Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, is seeking a part-time Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities include daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, and restrooms; event setup; furniture moves; snow removal; and adhering to safety guidelines. The position is non-exempt, 25 hours per week, Tue 5:00am–12:30pm and Wed–Fri 5:00am–11:00am, with starting pay $15.68–$19.03 per hour.

• The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• General Cleaning & Sanitation: Perform cleaning duties in classrooms, offices, and common areas; restrooms; restock supplies; wipe surfaces.
• Waste Management & Floor Maintenance: Empty trash, dispose debris, shovel snow/ice to keep entrances accessible.
• Event Support & Logistics: Set up/breakdown for campus events; assist with office moves.
• Safety, Maintenance, & Compliance: Follow safety protocols; maintain equipment; report repairs.
• Inventory Management & Professionalism: Replenish supplies; communicate needs; maintain courteous atmosphere.
• Other duties as assigned

Position Summary:

The Custodian supports JCCC mission by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for the daily sanitation and physical upkeep of campus buildings, including classrooms, offices, and common areas. Beyond routine cleaning, the Custodian supports campus operations through event setup, furniture relocation, and seasonal grounds maintenance such as snow removal.

Position details

• General Cleaning & Sanitation Perform various cleaning duties (sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing) in classrooms, offices, and common areas. Clean and sanitize restrooms and re-stock supplies as needed. Wipe down and sanitize windows, desks, and other surface areas.
• Waste Management & Floor Maintenance Empty trash and recycling receptacles; dispose of debris into compactors and/or dumpsters. Bag trash for proper disposal according to established procedures. Shovel and remove snow and ice in doorways and entrances to ensure accessibility.
• Event Support & Logistics Assist with the setup and breakdown of campus events and meetings (tables, chairs, and post-event cleaning). Assist with office moves and rearranging furniture.
• Safety, Maintenance, & Compliance Follow established safety protocols and ensure proper care/maintenance of equipment and chemicals. Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored correctly after use. Promote and continuously improve workplace safety and environmental practices. Report any areas or equipment requiring repair to the appropriate personnel.
• Inventory Management & Professionalism Replenish products and supplies in assigned areas. Notify supervisors of the need to order cleaning supplies and equipment. Display a courteous attitude to enhance a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
