Job summary

University of Washington's Facilities department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 2 to maintain and repair campus facilities, equipment, and systems. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and work across electrical, plumbing, carpentry and related trades to keep buildings safe and functional.

In this full-time, first-shift role, you’ll operate power tools, assist with project work, coordinate with other trades, and follow safety and policy guidelines to support UW's

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years’ applicable work experience.
  • Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Patch and paint walls.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment.
  • Remove, repair and replace ceiling tiles.
  • Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings and painted surfaces.
  • Perform journey level tasks in machinery mechanics; such as repair and replacement of drive belts, motors etc. on-air handling equipment.
  • Maintain boilers, repair kitchen equipment and exhaust fans.
  • Adjust door closers.
  • Hang shower curtains.
  • Hook shower drains.
  • Tighten toilet seats.
  • Operate various power tools in a skilled manner.
  • May assist, coordinate and/or work with other trades and journey level personnel.
  • Perform semi-skilled tasks in multiple trades including electrician and plumbing work.
  • Replace lighting ballasts and lamps.
  • Replace showers heads.
  • Repairing leaking faucets.
  • Install shower sweeps.
  • Operate machinery such as forklifts and scissor-lifts.
  • Load and unload materials and supplies.
  • Operate vehicles such as UW vans and trucks to transport tools, equipment and personnel to various job sites.
  • Keep supervisor informed of project status and work progress, required project materials and equipment.
  • May instruct semi-skilled workers.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other UW Facilities shops to facilitate work.
  • Know and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job.
