Job Description

Connections Personnel is hiring for a Direct Hire Maintenance Mechanic for our client located in Avenel. We are looking for a motivated, high-energy candidate with a background in the flavor and fragrance industry to join their team!

The Maintenance Mechanic will perform all work tasks safely and in a timely manner, following company policies and procedures. Responsibilities include corrective and preventive maintenance in an industrial environment, repairing production/facility equipment, installing utilities and equipment (non-contractor work), maintaining fire and burglar systems, general upkeep of the facility, and acting as a liaison with outside services. The role involves working independently or as part of a team, depending on the task or project. The position may require periodic overtime. The Maintenance Mechanic will conduct repairs, maintenance, and other tasks as scheduled by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Senior Maintenance personnel. This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions but does not restrict other tasks that may be assigned.

Responsibilities

1. Perform preventive maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, calibrations, and servicing on machines, pumps, motors, facility equipment, and building systems, including HVAC units.
2. Rebuild pumps and other production equipment; thoroughly clean machines and parts; lubricate moving parts; record and report damaged or worn parts.
3. Perform minor electrical troubleshooting and installations (outlets, switches, lights).
4. Handle plumbing work: run copper lines, pipe threading, repair and install plumbing fixtures.
5. Use the CMMS system to enter and close work orders and record equipment and preventive maintenance data.
6. Ensure compliance with FDA, SQF, and OSHA procedures and regulations; maintain a clean and organized work area.
7. Follow all safety rules and SOPs, maintaining a record of an accident and injury-free workplace.
8. Complete documentation accurately, including maintenance forms and equipment logbooks.
9. Perform other maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisors or managers.
10. Weld on pipes as needed.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical training in plumbing, mechanical, or electrical maintenance.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and good verbal and written communication skills.
• At least 2 years of maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment (pumps, mixers, motors, etc.).
• Minor electrical troubleshooting and installation skills.
• Plumbing skills: copper piping, pipe threading, soldering, use of Pro press tools.
• Knowledge of welding, HVAC systems, and lean principles is a plus.
• Experience executing work tasks within a P.M. Program for at least 2 years.
• Basic computer skills.
• Proficiency in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment.
• Welding skills, including pipe welding.
• Effective time management, ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
• Teamwork and good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Physical ability to handle workloads, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in confined spaces.
• Ability to work overtime as required.
• Ability to operate scissor lifts, drive forklifts, and floor cleaning equipment.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
