Job summary

YMCA of Greater Brandywine in West Chester, PA is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II to support the Facility Director in maintaining YMCA buildings, grounds and vehicles. The role emphasizes prompt response to maintenance issues, preventive efforts, and safety compliance in a busy community facility.

The ideal candidate brings at least 3 years of facilities maintenance experience, mechanical and electrical knowledge, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Mechanical and electrical experience required.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must obtain Class 24 Pesticide Certification within one year of hire/promotion.
  • Must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within one year of hire/promotion.
  • Must be well groomed and have good communication skills.
  • Above-average knowledge of one of the trades (plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, etc.).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt response to all maintenance related problems.
  • Actively participate in preventive maintenance program.
  • Troubleshoot/correct mechanical, electrical, and plumbing related problems.
  • Maintain swimming pools per health regulations.
  • Clean the facility interior/exterior and complete tasks as assigned.
  • Select and use appropriate tools and materials.
  • Notify supervisor of supplies and inventory shortages.
  • Adhere to safety and risk management procedures.
  • Wear PPE as required.
  • Complete projects on or before scheduled time.
  • Identify safety/maintenance items and suggest improvement plans.
  • Perform custodial/janitorial duties as assigned.
  • Attend meetings and trainings to improve trade skills.
  • Ensure compliance with YGBW policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties; work shift Tuesday thru Saturday.

Under minimal supervision, the Maintenance Mechanic II assists the Facility Director in maintaining overall operation of YMCA buildings, grounds and vehicles.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide prompt response to all maintenance related problems.
  • Actively participate in preventive maintenance program.
  • Troubleshoot/correct mechanical, electrical, and plumbing related problems.
  • Maintain swimming pools per CCHD and PA Dept. of Health Regulations.
  • Be proactive in cleaning the facility interior/exterior, and complete cleaning tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Select and use appropriate tools and materials according to job specifications.
  • Notify supervisor of supplies needed and inventory shortages.
  • Adhere to safety and risk management procedures and alert management of any safety violations or risk situations.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment for the task at hand.
  • Complete projects on or before scheduled time.
  • Identify safety/maintenance/aesthetic items that need attention. Suggest a plan to improve to the Facility Director immediately.
  • Perform additional duties – including custodial/janitorial tasks – as assigned by supervisor.
  • Be available to attend meetings, training courses, classes or seminars that relate to improving trade skills and member service.
  • Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work shift is Tuesday thru Saturday.
