Job description

Overview

The purpose of this position is to perform skilled and semi‑skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, HVAC, hydraulic, and some electrical and plumbing systems and equipment; perform general carpentry and minor building construction and renovation work; provide leadership to subordinate mechanics as assigned; and perform related work as required.

Responsibilities
  • Installs, maintains and repairs various mechanical systems and equipment, including overhead doors and windows, appliances, locking mechanisms, fencing and automatic gates, and general mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Inspects and repairs HVAC and refrigeration equipment in designated County buildings and facilities.
  • Performs some plumbing and electrical maintenance and repair work as necessary.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses routine equipment and system problems; schedules and performs routine repair work or parts replacement.
  • Performs general carpentry work for building construction or renovation as required; repairs furnishings as needed.
  • Repairs roofing.
  • Provides training, leadership, advice and assistance to co‑workers as needed; ensures all work orders are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Assists supervisor in planning and coordinating major installation and maintenance projects as requested.
  • Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed using the department’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Performs all work in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
  • Attends training, workshops, meetings, and other developmental activities as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, special courses or self‑education equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in mechanical maintenance or a closely related field.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Over three years of experience in a maintenance or trade‑related field, complemented by technical training.
Compensation

Minimum: $21.70 per hour.
