Job summary

Richland County Government in Columbia, SC is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Mechanic to support installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, HVAC, and related systems in County facilities.

This full-time role requires 1–3 years of experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. Tasks include preventive maintenance, diagnostics, minor carpentry, and keeping CMMS records up to date.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
  • 1-3 years' experience in maintenance or technical field.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Experience with HVAC and refrigeration equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with plumbing and electrical maintenance is preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic carpentry and hands-on repairs.
  • Familiarity with CMMS or computerized maintenance records.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration equipment in County facilities.
  • Assist with plumbing and electrical maintenance work as necessary.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and assist with repairs or parts replacement.
  • Perform general carpentry for building renovations as needed.
  • Maintain tools and CMMS records for completed work.
