Job summary

OtterBase is seeking Maintenance Mechanics to support a state-of-the-art production facility in Federalsburg, MD. The role focuses on installing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of manufacturing equipment to maximize reliability and plant efficiency.

Qualified candidates will have at least one year of maintenance experience, basic troubleshooting skills, the ability to learn PIT certification, and the ability to read technical documents and schematics.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of maintenance experience or equivalent technical training.
• Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents and schematics.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Eligibility to obtain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, maintain, modify, repair, and rebuild plant and facility equipment.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
• Inspect equipment and identify issues before they affect production.
• Assist production teams with equipment changeovers and setup activities.
• Utilize blueprints, manuals, and schematics; support continuous improvement.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for installing, diagnosing, maintaining, modifying, repairing, and rebuilding a variety of production and facility equipment. This role plays a key part in maximizing equipment reliability and supporting efficient plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, maintain, modify, repair, and rebuild plant and facility equipment
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability
• Inspect equipment and identify issues before they impact production
• Assist production teams with equipment changeovers and setup activities
• Dismantle defective equipment to access and replace components
• Utilize technical documentation including blueprints, manuals, and schematics
• Support continuous improvement and root cause analysis efforts

Qualifications

Maintenance Mechanic I

• Minimum one (1) year of maintenance experience or equivalent technical training
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to learn and maintain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification
• Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents and schematics preferred
• Effective English communication skills for safety, training, and operational requirements

Maintenance Mechanic II

In addition to Level I qualifications:

• Minimum three (3) years of maintenance, diagnostics, and repair experience or equivalent technical training
• Experience using hand tools and power tools
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, temperature controls, and pressure systems
• Ability to troubleshoot moderately complex mechanical issues
• Experience with test equipment and automated controls
• Ability to operate PIT equipment, hoists, and cranes

Maintenance Mechanic III

• Minimum five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience or equivalent technical training
• Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities
• Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and basic electrical systems
• Advanced understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Ability to inspect, repair, and replace manufacturing equipment components
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications
• Experience using diagnostic equipment and maintenance-related software

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in packaging, converting, plastics processing, chemical manufacturing, or similar industrial environments
  • Vocational, Technical, Associate Degree, or equivalent training in:
    • Industrial Maintenance
    • Machine Tool Technology
    • Mechatronics
    • Automation Controls
    • Robotics
    • Industrial Electrical Systems
