GENERAL SUMMARY

The Maintenance Manager is the most senior Vehicle Maintenance position on the Hendrickson Transportation Group management team assigned to the CCRTA Paratransit Services and Small Bus Operations contract, as designated Key Management Personnel. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Maintenance Department, including day-to-day operations, personnel supervision, fleet compliance, and coordination with the General Manager on all maintenance-related matters. This is a management position and is not covered by the Teamsters Local 657 collective bargaining agreement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Department, including all bargaining-unit maintenance personnel (technicians, utility workers, and maintenance clerks) assigned to the CCRTA contract.

Assign, schedule, and monitor preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs), repair work orders, and Texas DPS state safety inspections for all paratransit and small bus fleet vehicles, using fleet maintenance software (e.g., RTA or equivalent).

Ensure at least one journeyman-level mechanic is assigned to perform maintenance and repair services on vehicles covered under the CCRTA contract.

Ensure all vehicle maintenance and repair activities comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.

Supervise maintenance personnel: organize and prioritize job assignments, provide technical instruction, perform quality control of completed work, and ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and safety equipment.

Supervise procurement, receipt, and disbursement of parts and inventory; process warranty claims and manufacturer recalls/campaigns.

Respond to road calls and emergency maintenance situations, including industrial accidents and injuries; be available for emergency response on evenings and weekends as needed.

Assist with personnel management for maintenance staff, including scheduling, leave and vacation picks, performance management, discipline, and grievance handling, consistent with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Assure that all maintenance personnel perform work in accordance with the Safety Program and comply with applicable safety regulations; participate in facility inspections and safety training.

Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance reports for the General Manager and CCRTA; maintain accurate data and operational records.

Support the Safety and Training Manager with maintenance-related safety and technical training for maintenance staff.

Assist with budget development, cost analysis, and procurement recommendations for maintenance operations, materials, and equipment.

Participate in planning future maintenance projects and financial needs; recognize problem areas and recommend and implement corrective action.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of a two-year program in diesel/heavy-duty vehicle mechanics, or equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a vehicle/fleet maintenance shop, including extensive experience repairing diesel/CNG engines and heavy-duty vehicles.

Working knowledge of DOT and FTA regulations applicable to vehicle maintenance operations.

Proficiency with fleet maintenance and diagnostic software (e.g., Cummins Insight, Allison Transmission, WABCO ABS, RTA, or equivalent) and standard PC applications.

Knowledgeable in interpreting the applicable collective bargaining agreement and ensuring its provisions are applied fairly and consistently to bargaining-unit maintenance staff.

License/Certification: Valid Texas Driver's License; ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of employment, as required for the position.

Excellent administrative, supervisory, and written/verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed inside and outside the maintenance facility, with frequent exposure to fumes, gases, dust, grease, smoke, oils, noise, and temperature/humidity extremes. Requires the ability to sit and walk, listen, lift 50 pounds, and move up to 80 pounds; close, distance, and peripheral vision with the ability to adjust focus; sufficient color vision to identify wiring colors; the ability to be mobile, bend, stoop, stand, and climb ladders/stairs; and simultaneous use of both arms and feet. Work hours may involve early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, with days off subject to cancellation for operational needs.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

This is a full-time, non-bargaining-unit management position. All job offers and continued employment are contingent upon successfully completing the following pre-employment activities:

Criminal history background check, including state and out-of-state criminal history review and National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) search.

Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check confirming an acceptable driving record: no more than two (2) moving violations or accidents in the preceding three (3) years, no more than one (1) DWI/DUI conviction in a lifetime, and no DWI/DUI conviction in the preceding five (5) years.

DOT medical (physical) examination and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen administered in accordance with FTA/DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and 655), followed by random, reasonable-suspicion, and post-accident testing throughout employment, as this position performs or oversees safety-sensitive functions.

Completion of the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) clearance process issued by Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, required for access to restricted facilities or service areas.

Verification of a valid Texas driver's license.
