Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily workflow, including vehicle turnaround times, productivity, repairs, breakdowns, and new work requirements.
  • Manage the workshop floor and yard to ensure organization, cleanliness, and compliance with standards.
  • Review completed work daily to ensure accurate parts, labor, and descriptions.
  • Own the site P&L, control costs, and align with budget targets.
  • Provide regular performance and operational updates to the Operations Director.
  • Coordinate with vendors, landlords, and internal teams on local projects.
  • Ensure safety, OSHA compliance, and proper use of PPE and tools.

Job description

Seeking a US Veteran, Guardsman, Reservist, and/or Military Spouse (highly preferred) for a Workshop Manager opportunity. The Workshop Manager is accountable for leading the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations. This includes managing daily workshop performance, ensuring compliance with Quality Standards and safety practices, and maintaining exceptional customer service.

Pay: $95,000 - $115,000

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Lead and manage the workshop team to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance operations.
  • Oversee daily workflow, including vehicle turnaround times, productivity, repairs, breakdowns, and new work requirements.
  • Manage the workshop floor and associated yard, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and compliance with operational standards.
  • Conduct daily reviews of completed work to ensure all parts, labor, and descriptions are accurately recorded.
  • Maintain accountability for the site’s financial performance, including ownership of the P&L, cost control, and alignment with budget targets.
  • Provide regular performance and operational updates to the Operations Director.
  • Oversee daily servicing, repairs, maintenance planning, inspections, cleaning, and auditing to meet company standards.
  • Lead local projects from planning to completion, coordinating with landlords, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Seek required customer approvals before work begins and manage the chargeable defect authorization process, including warranty repairs.
  • Manage facility upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and equipment installations, ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and timeline requirements while coordinating with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to minimize operational disruption.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to KPIs, budgets, and service standards.
  • Control costs by challenging and pre-authorizing subcontractor, parts, and overtime expenses.
  • Ensure all defects are repaired effectively and records are maintained accurately.
  • Ensure safe work systems and practices are followed and toolbox talks are delivered on time.
  • Manage shift patterns, scheduling, and staff availability to meet operational needs.
  • Accountable for overall workshop productivity by effectively managing technician workload, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Address performance issues through coaching, development, or formal disciplinary processes as required.
  • Manage absence, sickness, and lateness in line with company policy; conduct return-to-work interviews.
  • Recruit, onboard, and induct new staff; motivate and develop team members for optimal performance.
  • Provide initial technical training and ongoing skills development to technicians, identifying and addressing training gaps and aligning with industry trends (e.g., electrical training for EV GSE or trucks)
  • Partner with HR to resolve employee relations matters and ensure compliance with policies and employment law.
  • Act as the primary site contact for customers, ensuring all service delivery meets quality specifications.
  • Proactively address customer concerns and maintain strong relationships.
  • Work with Commercial to align operational delivery with contractual obligations
  • Identify new maintenance opportunities for the workshop
  • Promote and enforce OSHA standards and safe work practices to achieve full team compliance.
  • Ensure proper use of safety equipment, PPE, and protective devices.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses, hazards, and unsafe practices promptly through Quentic.
  • Participate in safety improvement initiatives and cooperate fully in investigations.
  • Manage subcontractors and visitors, addressing substandard work promptly.
  • Investigate vehicle and personal accidents and complete required reports to company standards.
  • Perform other operational and business support tasks as assigned, maintaining flexibility and professionalism.
Requirements:

  • Strong leadership, team management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead operational projects from concept to completion
  • Customer-focused with strong service delivery orientation.
  • Proficient in budgeting, P&L management, cost control, and operational KPIs.
  • Knowledge of workshop procedures, systems, and safety regulations.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to develop and deliver initial technician training, and to drive ongoing training improvements aligned with industry trends (e.g., EV technologies).
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with HR, Commercial, and technical teams.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, coaching, and performance management.
  • Good IT skills and ability to prepare clear reports and presentations.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
