Overview

The Maintenance Manager oversees the day‑to‑day functions of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and administrative staff. The position is based in Bedford Park, IL, supporting the MDW RAC location. Maintenance facilities operate on a three‑shift basis to ensure equipment is maintained, tested, inspected, and meets DOT, client or company standards.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive base salary: $64,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience and ASE certifications.

  • Vacation: minimum 2 weeks
  • Sick days: 5 days
  • Holidays: 12 days (8 regular, 4 floating)

Key Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, and schedule Maintenance Technicians.
  • Approve maintenance priorities based on material availability and scheduled operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors.
  • Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Manage inventory.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures per corporate requirements.
  • Participate in development and administration of the operational budget.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery methods.
  • Other duties as requested.
  • Travel (outside immediate area) 10% of the time.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and air‑brake endorsements preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy‑duty automotive and transit equipment.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Broad understanding of mechanical systems of heavy‑duty vehicles.
  • Familiarity with laws & regulations related to safe operation of maintenance facilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work shifts or flexible schedules as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical exam as applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorise the use of Schedule I drugs for any reason.
Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; 100% of the job performed outside, often alone in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances and traverse sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
  • Push or pull objects up to 50 pounds; lift materials up to 50 pounds with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to access low‑level equipment.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing duties; tolerate exposure to significant dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
