Transdev is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Manager in Bedford Park, IL to lead a team of mechanics, washers, and staff across three shifts. You will drive preventive maintenance, diagnose complex issues, and oversee vendor work while ensuring safety and uptime.

Ideal candidates bring extensive diesel and heavy equipment experience, strong leadership, and familiarity with DOT regulations. DOT drug testing applies; position requires shift flexibility.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid CDL Class B with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred.
• 7+ years of heavy-duty repair and maintenance experience.
• 3+ years of supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.

Fleet Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance Manager oversees the day-to-day functions of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers and administrative staff members. Maintenance facilities typically operate on a three-shift basis to ensure that maintenance on equipment is completed; tests and inspections of products, services and processes to evaluate quality or performance of that equipment are accomplished; and specifications are met to DOT, client or company standards. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in diesel engine repair, automotive diagnostics, and heavy equipment operation, combined with strong leadership abilities to manage maintenance teams effectively. Join us to lead a proactive maintenance program that minimizes downtime, enhances vehicle performance, and promotes a culture of safety and excellence. This position is based in Bedford Park, IL in supporting the MDW RAC Location.

Key Responsibilities

• Hire, train and schedule Maintenance Technicians
• Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations
• Coordinate scheduled preventative maintenance, including oil changes, tire service, brake repair, suspension checks, and hydraulic system servicing
• Diagnose complex mechanical issues using schematics, automotive diagnostics tools, and technical manuals; perform repairs on transmissions, air brake systems, HVAC units, shocks & struts, and other heavy equipment components
• Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors
• Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently
• Manage inventory
• Implement safety policies and procedures for the department per corporate requirements
• Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget
• Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods
• Other duties as required
• Travel requirement outside of immediate area 10%

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred
• 7 years+ experience in the repair and maintenance of alltypes of heavy-duty automotive and transit equipment
• 3 years+ of supervisory experience
• Extensive experience with heavy-duty diesel trucks and industrial equipment.
• Strong knowledge of schematics for electrical systems, hydraulics, suspension
• Proficiency in fabrication techniques involving welding, soldering, and custom modifications.
• components, HVAC units, and transmissions.
• Skilled in diesel truck diagnostics for troubleshooting engine issues and electrical systems; adept at using power tools and hand tools for repairs.
• Effective leadership skills with a focus on team development; strong customer service orientation when interacting with internal stakeholders or external vendors
• Familiarity with laws & regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
• Physical capability for heavy lifting; familiarity with safety protocols related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
