The West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church is at a pivotal point in our Camping and Retreat Ministry.
We are seeking an experienced maintenance and facilities manager to help re-launch programming at Camp Wesley in the summer of 2026. A team is currently working on significant remodeling aspects. The Maintenance & Facilities Manager will primarily be responsible for basic updates during the remodeling phase and coordinating volunteer work groups. Once re-launched, this role will ensure that guests and campers have a positive and safe experience at our facility through maintenance, upkeep, and enhancement of Camp Wesley's buildings, property, extensive lake, vehicles, and equipment, as well as providing support services to our guests and campers while they are on the grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an annualized maintenance management system aimed at preventing issues, correcting problems, and supporting construction for the efficient and ongoing upkeep of buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
- Ensure the grounds are safe, well-maintained, and aesthetically pleasing, including mowing, tree-trimming, weed control, fertilizing, snow removal, trash disposal, beach cleaning, and repair/maintenance of walkways, utility roads, parking lots, benches, decks, pavilions, and play structures.
- Maintain all buildings and camp structures to ensure guest comfort and safety, including repair and maintenance of guest rooms, meeting rooms, public spaces, utilities, waterfront equipment, and cabins.
- Maintain camp vehicles and equipment, ensuring safe use, proper storage, good condition, and proper functioning, including watercraft, tools, machinery, and kitchen equipment.
- Ensure compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) standards and government safety regulations, including obtaining necessary licenses and permits, maintaining documentation, and conducting inspections.
- Train, supervise, and coordinate staff and volunteers involved in maintenance and improvement projects, in consultation with the Camp Director, including overseeing renovations, planning work, hiring, and performance evaluations.
- Manage the annual maintenance budget in collaboration with the Camp Director and other leaders, monitoring expenditures, maintaining records, and communicating about unbudgeted projects.
- Assist with ministry-related tasks as needed, such as welcoming groups, communicating information, meal prep, cleaning guest rooms, etc.
- Participate in on-call duties for emergencies and urgent situations.
- Assist in representing the camp to local businesses, churches, and related groups.
- Attend training, professional conferences, and obtain necessary certifications related to camp work.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years' experience in maintenance, grounds, mechanics, building trades, staff supervision, budgeting, and marine maintenance.
- Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, positive attitude, and ability to respond to direction and requests effectively.
- Proficiency with administrative computer applications.
- Personable, relational, positive, and collaborative team player.
- Willingness to live near the grounds and be on call for guest needs and emergencies.
- Committed to the Christian faith and serving in a ministry setting.
- Current vaccination records.
- Clear BCI/FBI background check.
Working Conditions:
- Knowledge of engineering, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, water/sewage treatment, vehicle operation, landscaping, and maintenance.
- Proficiency in safe use of power tools, handling hazardous chemicals, and operating machinery and building materials.
- Understanding of safety regulations and procedures, with ability to communicate them effectively.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds, perform tasks standing/walking for extended periods, and respond to emergencies, including first aid.
- Ability to operate vehicles such as cars, trucks, and tractors safely.
- Some travel may be required for supplies, training, or meetings.
