Job summary

Carlo’s Bakery in Jersey City, NJ, seeks a proactive Maintenance Engineer to keep manufacturing equipment and systems running efficiently. You will troubleshoot ovens, mixers, conveyors, and packaging lines, using CMMS to log work orders and maintain documentation.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in industrial maintenance, a related engineering degree, and expertise with PLCs, VFDs, and 3-phase systems, plus a strong safety mindset and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Strong proficiency with PLCs, VFDs, and 3-phase systems.
• Experience with CMMS for asset tracking.
• Knowledge of GMP, SQF, HACCP and safety protocols.

• Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Overview

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting our manufacturing facility’s equipment and systems to ensure smooth operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, hands-on experience with industrial maintenance, problem solving ability and a passion for keeping production running efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on industrial ovens, proofers, mixers, conveyors, and automated packaging lines.
• Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PPM): Execute scheduled work orders, routine inspections, and condition-based monitoring during planned downtime to prevent catastrophic line failures.
• Reliability Engineering & Continuous Improvement: Analyze equipment failure root causes, track key performance indicators like MBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), and optimize uptime strategies.
• System Documentation & SOPs: Develop and standardize operational procedures, equipment manuals, and maintenance logs using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) like Maintain, UpKeep, or eMaint.
• Food Safety & Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GPs), SQF, HACCP guidelines, and SHAprotocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with production supervisors, sanitation crews, and plant management to coordinate repairs and execute facility installations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance within manufacturing facilities or similar environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant technical diploma/certification.
• Strong technical proficiency with 3-phase electrical systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), pneumatics & hydronic/steam networks
• Ability to perform root-cause analysis during unexpected equipment breakdowns.
• Ability to analyze complex problems quickly and develop effective solutions while maintaining safety standards.
• Ability to use modern computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track asset performance is a plus.
