Aerotek is seeking a Maintenance Electrician (Electro-Mechanical) for our Rocky Mount, VA facility. The role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving production equipment using advanced electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC skills.

You will participate in installations, modifications, and preventive maintenance programs, while adhering to safety standards and working with cross-functional teams to keep downtime to a minimum.

Job Title: Maintenance Electrician (Electro-Mechanical)

Job Description

This electro-mechanical Maintenance Electrician role supports manufacturing operations by troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving production equipment. You apply advanced electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC troubleshooting skills to keep equipment running safely and efficiently, while also contributing to equipment installations, modifications, and preventive maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complex electro-mechanical issues on manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
• Perform detailed equipment setups, including recipe changes, control adjustments, and fine-tuning for optimal performance.
• Repair and maintain mechanical machine components to ensure consistent and efficient operation.
• Apply advanced knowledge of electrical principles such as voltage, current, and resistance in daily troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Diagnose and repair electrical control circuits, sensors, photo eyes, field devices, and related components.
• Troubleshoot and maintain motor control circuits, programmable drives, and associated electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot PLC inputs and outputs and repair issues related to PLC controls and interfaces.
• Install, modify, and relocate electrical circuits, controls, and equipment to support production and process changes.
• Maintain and repair pneumatic systems, including cylinders and related pneumatic components.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks, from simple to complex, following established procedures and schedules.
• Document all completed work accurately in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Monitor and report spare parts usage, and prepare parts requisitions to ensure adequate inventory levels.
• Adjust equipment based on process control data and collaborate closely with Quality Assurance teams to maintain product quality.
• Assist with the training and development of Maintenance Technician I and II team members by sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Participate in scheduled overtime, emergency call-ins, and on-call support as needed to maintain equipment uptime.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Communicate effectively with employees, vendors, contractors, and suppliers to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall maintenance and production goals.

Essential Skills

• Associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience.
• 3-7 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including work with control circuits, sensors, photo eyes, field devices, and motor control circuits.
• Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting, including inputs and outputs, PLC controls, and PLC maintenance.
• Experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Advanced understanding of electrical principles such as voltage, current, and resistance.
• Mechanical maintenance skills, including repair and adjustment of mechanical machine components.
• Experience maintaining and repairing pneumatic systems, including cylinders and related components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, technical manuals, and computer-generated graphics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability and willingness to work scheduled overtime, respond to emergency call-ins, and support on-call requirements when needed.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, forklifts, lifts, and other maintenance equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly above shoulder height and below the waist, and perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, powders, and fumes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Intermediate fabrication skills, including welding and basic machining.
• Experience with hydraulics and industrial electronics.
• Experience with installation, wiring, and repair of industrial equipment.
• Ability to interpret and work from wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work documentation.
• Comfort working with programmable drives and various industrial control systems.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all maintenance tasks.
• Ability to assist in the training and development of other maintenance technicians.
• Willingness to attend job-related training, including occasional travel if required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. Noise levels range from moderate to loud, and you may encounter airborne dust, powders, and fumes, as well as variable temperatures throughout the workday. The work is physically demanding and involves frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and use of hands and fingers, along with occasional climbing and balancing. You regularly lift up to 50 pounds above shoulder height and below the waist. Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, including safety glasses, gloves, protective footwear, hearing protection, and any additional PPE specified for particular work areas or tasks.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rocky Mount, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.50 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
