The Ferry Division is seeking an individual to perform intermediate to advanced skilled trades work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of facility and facility systems across multiple NC Ferry Division locations. Work is performed independently with minimal supervision and involves diverse, complex assignments such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, water/wastewater O&M, roofing and siding repairs, flooring installation, lighting installation and repair, concrete work, lock and door hardware replacement, ferry ramp electrical troubleshooting, plumbing repairs, and basic structure design/build. The position requires frequent travel across shipyard and ferry terminals—including Currituck-Knotts Island, Swan Quarter, Hatteras, Ocracoke, and Pamlico River—and occasional overnight stays depending on project needs. Key Responsibilities: •Perform skilled work in one or more trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or water/wastewater O&M. •Troubleshoot and repair reported issues with electrical systems, HVAC systems, water/wastewater treatment systems, facility structural components, and facility plumbing components. •Manage projects with basic planning, organization, and administrative skills. •Complete special assignments as directed by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC09 $41,206 - $72,113**Management prefers applicants with the following:*** Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in general maintenance and repair of buildings equipment, and machinery.* Skill in the use of tools required in various technically complex trades.* Demonstrated ability to read and interpret building codes.* Demonstrated ability to read blueprints.* Experience working at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time. **Minimum Education and Experience**Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
