Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

Food Safety Role & Responsibility:
As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training, and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance/Safety/Security policies and training requirements. Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, HACCP, facility security, visitor policy, and mandatory safety training.
The individual must also request additional and/or refresher training if they feel it is needed to effectively perform requirements in specific areas of responsibility.
Summary:
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing, and assisting in modifying all processing, packaging, and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency.
Job Function Statements - Essential Functions:
- Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, air conditioners, etc.
- Disassemble machines, repair or replace broken parts.
- Adjust functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
- Clean and lubricate parts.
- Order replacement parts.
- Inspect completed repairs.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Requisition new parts and equipment.
- The employee is required to lift up to 75 pounds.
- The employee will be required to learn and change blades as needed.
- The employee will learn the Fresh Rinse and Prominent systems.
- The employee is required to wear cut-resistant gloves, hardhat, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes, and follow all GMP rules and regulations.
- Complete any and all duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Ability to apply basic skills and develop advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position.
- Resolve routine questions and problems, and refer more complex issues to higher levels.
- Work under direct supervision and follow standard procedures and instructions.
- Physical Requirements: stand for extended periods, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Work Environment: exposed to wet/cold conditions (34-36°F), hot conditions, high places, outside weather, and moderate to loud noise levels.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Word and Excel.
- Basic math skills: fractions, decimals, percentages, metric system.
- Operate CMMS system effectively for work orders and maintenance logging.
- Ability to learn new tasks.
Other Desired Qualifications/Skills:
- Use of multi-meter and measurement instruments.
- Assist in fabricating and modifying parts using shop equipment and sanitary welding procedures.
- Certification in forklift, aerial lift, and boom lift operation.
- Ability to read and understand manuals.
- Experience in the food processing industry.
Experience:
1-2 years in a similar position or specialization.
Education/Training:
High School diploma or equivalency required; technical or vocational maintenance training preferred.
